In my eyes, packing is an art form that is mastered only over time and through experience, two factors of which I lack extensive knowledge. Will I overpack? Will I forget to bring a necessity? How will I account for unforeseen circumstances? Questions like these loom as I add and subtract from my list.<\/p>\n<p>In spite of this, one must continue on &#8212; clothes must be folded and baggage must be weighed. Below are my preliminary checklists of things I will bring in my backpack and in my luggage:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baggage:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>laptop and charger<\/li>\n<li>Wallet\n<ul>\n<li>Physical copy of hostel information:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>iPhone, iPhone charger, earbuds<\/li>\n<li>Binder\n<ul>\n<li>Copies of 1) flight itinerary and 2) passport<\/li>\n<li>Assigned books and articles<\/li>\n<li>Additional printed articles<\/li>\n<li>Passport<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Pencil case (pens, pencils, Chapstick)<\/li>\n<li>Reusable water bottle<\/li>\n<li>Travel bag\n<ul>\n<li>Soap bar<\/li>\n<li>Medication<\/li>\n<li>Toothbrush and toothpaste<\/li>\n<li>Face wash<\/li>\n<li>Deodorant<\/li>\n<li>Hair gel<\/li>\n<li>Conditioner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Planner<\/li>\n<li>Journal<\/li>\n<li>Gum<\/li>\n<li>Spare socks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Luggage:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>fourteen pairs of socks and underwear<\/li>\n<li>two polo shirts<\/li>\n<li>one dress shirt<\/li>\n<li>three pairs of pants (dress slacks, casual chinos, denim jeans)<\/li>\n<li>two pairs of sweatpants<\/li>\n<li>two pairs of shorts (sleeping)<\/li>\n<li>four shirts (sleeping)<\/li>\n<li>three crewneck sweaters<\/li>\n<li>one fleece jacket<\/li>\n<li>two beanies<\/li>\n<li>one scarf<\/li>\n<li>four shirts (for going out and about)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hopefully this suffices!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As our departure date nears, I&#8217;ve been drafting up lists (that I&#8217;ve revised time and time again) of things I will bring to Kyoto.
