Bio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is my <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2021\/08\/CV-Ralph-Morrison-6_29_21.pdf\">CV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s where I&#8217;ve been since 2006:<\/p>\n<p>From 2006 to 2010, I was an undergraduate at Williams College. \u00a0I majored in mathematics, was a member of the Student Math and Statistics Advisory Board, and did <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/1930985_1048922468245_898_n.jpg\">lots of theatre<\/a> with <a href=\"http:\/\/capandbells.org\/\">Cap &amp; Bells<\/a>. \u00a0In the summer of 2008 I participated in Williams College&#8217;s SMALL REU in mathematics (working with Colin Adams on\u00a0knot theory), and in the summer of 2009 I participated in Oregon State University&#8217;s mathematics REU (working with Yevgeniy Kovchegov on random walks and Markov chains). \u00a0I did my senior thesis with Professor Steve Miller on modeling convolutions of L-functions, and got to write some <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/30336_1329269910619_5302228_n.jpg\">very long equations<\/a>.<span style=\"font-weight: 300\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-79 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/162621_1464312409148_4075926_n-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Ralph Morrison with several other Williams alums.\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/162621_1464312409148_4075926_n-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/162621_1464312409148_4075926_n-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/162621_1464312409148_4075926_n.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300\">From 2010 to 2015, I was a graduate student at UC Berkeley. \u00a0I worked with Bernd Sturmfels on tropical geometry and computational algebraic geometry, and was an officer for the Mathematics Graduate Student Association. \u00a0I also took a class in German, which was helpful because&#8230;<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-98 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/1393042_594508403946610_192224004_n-213x300.jpg\" alt=\"A constellation in the shape of the Mandelbrot set above the silhouette of a building next to a clock tower, all above the text &quot;Berkeley Mathematics&quot;.\" width=\"213\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/1393042_594508403946610_192224004_n-213x300.jpg 213w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/1393042_594508403946610_192224004_n.jpg 306w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 213px) 100vw, 213px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In Fall\u00a02013, I was based at the <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/1601061_10206596771256788_425483753987013905_n.jpg\">Max Planck Institute for Mathematics<\/a> in Bonn, Germany. \u00a0I travelled lots, met a ton of great collaborators, saw the world&#8217;s tallest cold-water geyser, and ate lots of\u00a0kartoffelpuffer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-84 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/1239946_10201217459297351_1234187314_n-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Ralph Morrison standing next to a geyser.\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/1239946_10201217459297351_1234187314_n-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/1239946_10201217459297351_1234187314_n.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From August 2015 to July 2016, I was a postdoctoral researcher at KTH in Stockholm, Sweden. \u00a0I worked with lots of new collaborators, including Sandra di Rocco and Mats Boij, and got to spend lots of time with my Swedish cousins.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-99 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/KTH_logotype-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"A brick wall with a sign saying KTH, Vetenskap Och Konst\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/KTH_logotype-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/KTH_logotype-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/KTH_logotype-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/KTH_logotype-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And since August\u00a02016, I&#8217;ve been an assistant professor of mathematics back at at Williams College! \u00a0x^2+y^2=r^2 of life&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-95 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.williams.edu\/10rem\/files\/2016\/10\/14322633_10209003466382662_8963301263800034135_n-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Ralph Morrison in front of a chalkboard with the text &quot;Math 151:  Multivariable Calculus, Prof. Ralph Morrison&quot;
